About Us

The goal of WOMEN DOING TIME is to provide incarcerated females with a way of meeting caring and sincere men or women; to help those who want to be helped, exchange letters, and possibly start new friendships or even a romance. We did not create WDT so that the owners of this site could become "dot com yuppies". Our sincere desire is to enable these lonely women to receive some mail, to cheer them up and provide a spark of hope during their incarceration. We want to help them change in their lives so that they never find themselves in such dire and depressing circumstances again. All monies collected at WDT are used to fund the operating expenses for this site and the services it provides to the women.

We here at WDT believe that the criminal justice system is badly broken and that the legal system is a system of purchased advantage! Education is the #1 means for most inmates to change their lives once released. Education Programs are offered at the institutions, but the majority of the women simply do not have the money to take advantage of these opportunities. These woman need positive energy and influences to elevate them in their dreary existence....

FACTS IT'S YOUR MONEY
It's a fact of life in America in the 21st Century - there are more than 2.2 million people in America's prisons! The largest growing segment is WOMEN! At the beginning of the 1990s, women accounted for nearly 10% of the nationwide jail population, and that number has continued to grow. Wouldn't YOU like to reach out to one of these women to offer her support, friendship...love? WHO PICKS UP THE TAB FOR PEOPLE PAYING THEIR DEBT TO SOCIETY?

WE ALL DO!

As of today, there are people in prison... people in U.S. prisons and jails. (Source: www.Prisonsucks.com: Research on the crime control industry.)

Every $100 million spent on new prison construction commits taxpayers to $1.6 billion over the next three decades. How will that money be spent? Like this:
  • $8,000,000,000-Estimated "off-budget" incarceration expenditures per year.
  • $2,000,000,000-Average cost of operating a state prison per year.
  • $69,000-Average cost per elderly state inmates 55 and older.
  • $54,000-Average cost per prison cell.
